Comparison of the Effect of Nd:YAG Laser and Sandblasting on Shear Bond Strength of a Commercial Ni-Cr Alloy to Porcelain
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Failures might occur at metal‒porcelain interfaces as a problem with metal‒ceramic restorations even with the application of airborne-particle abrasion technique. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of Nd:YAG laser treatment on the bond strength of porcelain fused to metal. Methods: Twenty-four cylindrical specimens (4 mm in diameter and 4 mm in height) were made of a commercially available nickel‒chromium alloy by lost-wax technique. Half of the specimens were surface-treated by air-borne particles and the other half was irradiated with Nd:YAG laser beams (wavelength of 1064 nm, energy and frequency of 120 mJ and 10 Hz, respectively, and a power setting of 6 kW). All the specimens (air-abraded and laser-treated) were covered with a 4-mm layer of opaque porcelain in two-stage baking and subjected to shear bond strength test (a 10-kgf at 1 mm/min) until fracture occurred. A fractured specimen from each group was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. T-test was used for statistical analysis and statistical significance was set at P

full textEffect of Opaque Porcelain Thickness Bond Strength of Porcelain to Ni-Cr Alloys
Objectives: Metal-ceramic restorations are the standard by which all esthetic restorations are measured. Fracture of dental restorations is a multifactorial problem, which is serious and costly. Debonding of porcelain from metal substructure and the bond strength depend on many factors. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the opaque porcelain thickness has a significant ef...
full textComparison of the Effect of Three methods of Porcelain Surface Treatment on Shear Bond Strength of Composite to Porcelain
Background and Aim: Several methods are available for intraoral repair of chipped porcelain restorations by composite resin. Also, there is still controversy regarding the best method of porcelain repair in terms of bond strength and cost effectiveness. This study aimed to compare three methods of porcelain surface treatment on shear bond strength (SBS) of composite to porcelain. Materials a...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Background and Aim: Application of zirconia ceramics has increased. Since the commonly used surface treatment for porcelain, i.e. acid etching is not efficient for zirconia surfaces, evaluation of other surface treatment methods for zirconia is important. The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal brackets to zirconia treated with different powers of Er:YAG lase...
